. It really is different here
Work Creatively Career Advisors is now The Career Equity Institute International, which provides my next-generation career management system. This innovative model not only gets an individual further than other career help knows how, it builds permanent Career Equity™ - control, options, a platform under their feet because they know themselves, have the right relationships in place and have new value, possibilities and freedoms they thought would take them years longer to earn. Clients get amazing results in how they feel and also tangible ones including doubled pay offers, even for new work they wanted but never held before. In challenging economic times, this brings in the kind of equity you can put in the bank.
Creativity is the number one benefit people notice as they adopt my career-care system for their own. It’s completely different than the old, worn-out career lore they hear from family, friends or experts. Career Equity brings freshness to how you run your career. It’s a profound difference that changes everything and yet is practical. It’s the most practical career help there is because conventional career techniques delay years of achievable progress and sacrifice thousands in the pay you command.
. Sabbatical
Creative thinking allowed me to develop this. You may or may not think you are creative yourself, it’ll work for you anyway. Creativity is my personal well. This fall I go on sabbatical, a semester of art college. Textile art. Like painting and sculpting, but with cloth. I had a goal to devote more of my time to this lifelong passion for fabric by the age I now am. And I made it! I really didn’t know how it could possibly happen though.
. Mentally claim your next stage before it gets here
Being serious about what I needed, but setting aside concerns for the ‘how’ part, is what made it happen. Acting as if the goal is real, before it occurs in fact. This mindset, which I call the “velvet punching glove” , i.e. I am getting work of this type for myself and which place doesn’t really matter’ or in my case, “I am going to add a art-making to how I spend my life, and it’s going to work out well” is one of over 20 special Career Equity™ techniques that can lift your career progress out of the doldrums, separate you from other talent and fuel you to go and get the roles you know you are right for while other applicants keep on slavishly following ‘rules’ that were never set out for talent to win.
. Ask, don’t sell
Over years of advising people on career strategy ever since 1991, a major finding I’ve made is that work you want to do is yours for the asking. If you take on the velvet glove attitude, and quit adhering to standard career routines that rob you of progress, whatever you really want to be/do/have is attainable. Rather than rack up ever-more credentials, then stand in line as an applicant, if instead you go ask the bosses you want to work for, good questions about them, and recite fewer irrelevant details about you – you will meet their true need…which is someone they know, who ‘gets it’. That one person is the one who always gets hired. It’s seldom the stranger; that’s too risky. Career Equity™ makes you that relevant, least-risk person, so you command the roles and pay you really want, time after time.
If this doesn’t make gut sense to you, even the current issue of Canadian Business (Sept 15 08) says HR’s involvement in hiring is tapering off and mangers will have to handle it alone. Busy managers pray you will show them why you’ll get them where they want to go. Help them; coach them; lead them – just ask them what they need to get done. Don’t bore them with any history that has nothing to do with them and the future they must get to.
. You know what you love doing
You know you. I have observed you already know inside what type of you want to spend your time doing, you are just letting ‘how’ make it seem impractical. Years whiz by you if you believe old career rules. Actually, your next boss or customer is dying to know what your know-how can produce for him or her. Put your velvet glove on. Go there, step into your next identity early and systematically make it so.
. How to have what they’re having
What about you? Can the career routine you use now, get you to how you want your life, work and income to be within months? Read through these blog articles to get an education about why not knowing about your Career Equity™ and growing more of it is probably a reason your career became the way it is now.
A waiting list is forming for January when I’ll next be accepting a small number of private client engagements. I advise 6-figure leaders, and my alumni and friends they refer, to craft and achieve the next career move that’s right for them.
To inquire about going on the waiting list, simply read more pages of this blog to see if having then next-generation career platform is for you and then email me for a personal discussion in January. In 09 I’ll be working closely with a few private clients and writing content to be made available to all, while based in Canada and in Asia with my life partner for his work.
